I pronounce my name somewhere between Karmul and Carmill. I think as my Irish accent morphed into a Californian accent it switched from Carmill to Karmul.

This being my name, I don't think I've ever met an American who pronounced it the way I pronounced it growing up in Ireland. Most people pronounce it like the city but I pronounce it like Americans pronounce the candy. Incidentally, I pronounce the candy with the a sound in the middle. Dialects 🤷‍♀️

I'm going to take a contrary view on this. If she's a naturalized citizen then she's American. By saying she's less American is in essence saying, that nationalized citizens are less American than native born citizens. As a naturalized citizen I consider myself as American as my native born friends.
