Fear is a valid reaction to a changing world. But dealing with your fear without harming others is your responsibility.

TLDR; Box Tops is a backasswards way for a corporation to fund something that the gov is responsible for and I’m embarrassed there was so much excitement for a backhanded marketing program, rather than direct community action to improve federal funding for schools. 😭🤠

I recognize the mindless craft is the very reason why communities were so locked in on school funding. There’s excitement from filling a bag to its gills. It’s not as exciting or memorable for a corp to say they donate 10c from every product. There’s no communal buy in.

…what a drain of energy— cutting out a dumb cardboard token. You have massive numbers of engaged parents and families willing to complete a meaningless task for a couple cents for a school — help them write letters and call senators instead!!

If school funding was actually an issue a corp cared about, why not lobby for edu funding? Get communities excited and provide resources to organize. Fix the issue, not the symptom.

Orrrr, automatically apply the 10c? Cut out the dumb cutting and counting process? Automate that shit?

ALSO, fully funding schools is liiiiiterallly the gov’s job! It’s their line item! Schools are their thing! Pay your teachers!
