Apple has removed Eyes Up, an app that aggregates videos people have published on social media documenting abuses by ICE, from the App Store,

Apple’s ongoing crackdown on anti-ICE apps continues.
Apple Banned an App That Simply Archived Videos of ICE Abuses
Eyes Up's purpose is to "preserve evidence until it can be used in court." But it has been swept up in Apple's crackdown on ICE-spotting apps.

Investing in AI after ChatGPT because you thought we’d soon invent AGI is like investing in Bitcoin after Satoshi’s paper because you thought it’d be the currency of the future.

Whether or not your prediction will ever be true remains to be seen but you still got rich just from the FOMO factor.

The real questions are

1. Is there a plausible path to AI tools providing enough value that OpenAI will 10x their revenue by 2030?

2. If we achieve AGI, what happens to humanity when an app can do most of the work of the average white collar worker with a negligible error rate?
The flawed Silicon Valley consensus on AI
Serious questions remain about what will happen if we do — and don’t — replicate human intelligence

LLMs aren't actually intelligent but are more akin to synthesizing Google search results for your question then guessing where there are gaps in data. This doesn't seem like a path to intelligence.

That said, you don't need AGI to generate massive financial upside or productivity gains.

Ben Thompson has now realized his criticism of OpenAI’s API business being a distraction that steals GPU capacity was wrongheaded.

This is a good example of how while Ben’s industry analysis is solid, his product instincts are less so. I tend to take all his strategic takes with a pinch of salt.

As a former PM for Facebook Login, I find fascinating the vision that every app will have AI and they want that AI to be your personalized ChatGPT.

This motivates both their API business and announcements like apps in ChatGPT.

If we’re lucky America may recover from the damage of the Trump administration in a few decades. But more likely, we’ll simply never recover.

Reagan caused damage that’s so permanent that people can’t imagine it being otherwise, let alone recovering from them. Such as top tax rates from 70% -> 28%.

Sora is a stunning technical achievement, but 2 choices were poorly thought out:

1. Letting people create & share copyright violations like Pikachu vs. Sonic fistfights is a DMCA minefield.

2. Allowing users to deepfake others into crimes or slurs is an abuse disaster waiting to happen.

I guess Optimus isn’t going to save the day. Tesla has given up on making thousands of Optimus robots this year given technical challenges.

Supposedly 80% of the future value of Tesla is these robots they don’t know how to make.

Tesla announced a cheaper Model Y with fewer features for $5,000 less. Unfortunately with the loss of the $7,500 tax credit this is effectively a price hike for a worse car.

Investors were not impressed and the stock ended down -4.45% today. Looks like it’s time for Optimus robots to save the day.

Ben Thompson argues that OpenAI commuting to spend $1 trillion dollars over the next five years on AI infrastructure and investments makes them the Windows of AI.

Honestly this sounds more like being the FTX of AI by spending money they don’t have to prop up the ecosystem.

Ben Thompson has pulled a 180 on Sora since it went viral. Now he sees it as a real Instagram killer

1. Instagram followed TikTok in prioritizing public content, leaving room for a friends-only feed.

2. Instagram can’t copy Sora without mixing AI slop into human posts and that clash is too jarring
Sora, AI Bicycles, and Meta Disruption
Sora is going viral, suggesting there is a big opportunity in unlocking creativity. If that’s true, that’s good for humanity — and bad for Meta.

OpenAI just announced a developer platform letting non-EU users interact with apps like Figma, Spotify, Expedia, and Zillow directly inside ChatGPT.

It’s a paradigm shift I’ve been wanting. Just this weekend I wished I could use ChatGPT to ask AllTrails about my recent hikes, now I actually can.

OpenAI just announced ChatGPT has 800M users and now lets you interact with apps directly in chat.

I just asked Spotify inside ChatGPT to make a playlist that I then listed to in the Spotify app.

Just last week they added in-chat shopping. OpenAI is really lapping the entire industry right now.

“AI is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.” - Zelda Williams to people sending her AI videos of her dead dad

Due to the proliferation of AI, I’m debating on instituting a rule that I won’t read your document unless you prove you’ve read it yourself.

It’s now a given AI is being used to create docs but also a given that many people aren’t reading the docs before sharing them with others.

Sam Altman is laying the groundwork for OpenAI to be declared too big to fail by the U.S. government. At this point the stock price of AMD, Nvidia and Oracle all have OpenAI growing revenue 20x by 2030 baked in.

It’s not a systemic risk but it isn’t nothing either

OpenAI may have found an infinite money glitch. AMD stock is up 25% after OpenAI pledged to spend billions it doesn’t yet have on AMD chips over five years plus OpenAI gets 10% of AMD if it follows through.

Altogether, OpenAI has now promised $1T in purchases in deals with AMD, Nvidia, and Oracle.
