Canada has nothing akin to the American “girl next-door“, or the “all American” high school football star. We are not driven or expected to achieve a specific image or lifestyle. Canadian culture truly permits us to be individuals. I believe this is the genesis of our many artists and comedians.

We need to be increasing the availability of train travel, not reducing it and certainly not removing it. The proposed high-speed rail will remove train service to about 300,000 residents of southeastern Ontario giving them no option but to drive on an already busy, and sometimes treacherous, #401.

In Canada’s public pay healthcare system, our taxes cover healthcare costs & without additional deductible payment’s required. Here are the 2024 expenditures for Canada and provinces. US private insurance costs are similar but with added deductible payments, & premiums are paid in addition to taxes.

What a fabulous program. A relatively low cost way to enhance the safety and security Cape Breton citizens. This can save lives and possibly reduce emergency firefighting costs.

On perhaps a smaller scale, D F = D T. D F has acted to weaken our social, health and educational programs, seeks to remove municipal infrastructure that benefits citizens, and decimated a few cultural institutions. And he has diverted taxpayer dollars to his developer friends and donors.

I think most Americans have no idea what taxes Canadians pay, and the services those tax cover, other than the hyperbole that they hear on Fox News. Even those people with healthcare plans usually end up paying a hefty annual deductible.

I get a lot of stuff wrong but my early call on all of this was that it's simply wrong to engage in this as an argument over congestion policy. I said on the podcast that it is, instead, an argument over who has the right to public space — and the Premier has decided the allocation.

I don't want to shock anyone, but I don't think that removing the bike lanes is going to improve congestion. The provincial government is putting people at risk for a few parking spots in midtown Toronto.

The documents also indicate that the government may reinstate on-street parking on Yonge Street, in the 400-metre section where the bike lane would be removed.
