My issue with this is that it’s the recurring response given for 99% of coaching changes… Last example being Iga’s former coach, and we all know he’s back on the road :) So now I tend to side-eye that justification… Like the « it was mutual » one lol

Not sure why Jack Draper is putting the coach who brought him all the way to the top of the game to the side… But here he is hiring Jamie Delgado as head coach. Also, he has now completed his mission to gather the entire Andy Murray team. www.bbc.com/sport/tennis...

Injuries have been decimating these events this year, as they were always going to start doing because, again, look at that damn schedule. We also have top players dumping parts of the last stretch to play events that give no points, and so have no play in the overall story. This mess makes no sense.

Can tennis stop self-sabotaging itself? Why give a proper slot to your biggest events of a swing if you can, wait for it, HAVE THEM ALL PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME? Isn’t it amazing? Isn’t it a storytelling dream? Isn’t it making the sport SO easy to follow? tennissweetspot.substack.com/p/tennis-a-n...

Alcaraz (whom we all like) needs to read the room, because he’s not helping that calendar debate. If players want to be heard about scheduling,Carlos needs to stop talking about it. I went all You Cannot Be Serious. There’s a way he can help;It ain’t this. tennissweetspot.substack.com/p/tennis-a-n...

Worst case scenario for that last stretch… Sigh…
carolebouchard.bsky.social
We’ll see but it’s totally possible that Sinner lost his chance to snatch back the World No.1 at the end of the year today in Shanghai. So there’s a chance that this chase is going to flop way before Torino. And we might be as unlucky with Sabalenka/Swiatek. 🍿 playing hard to get!

Shanghai kinda cursed here: Alcaraz didn’t make the trip and today Sinner has to retire in the third set of his match vs Griekspoor. How many times are we going to have to say this schedule has become unsustainable? That summer calendar has been bonkers.

What a year for Anisimova. Wins Beijing against Noskova (6-0,2-6,6-2), who had ousted Pegula. Happy to see Noskova having a great run in a big event btw as she needed it, it feels.

Rough for Goffin who apparently stuck his back early on (0-3) against Diallo. Had beaten Shelton in the previous round.

Mpetshi-Perricard beats Fritz in Shanghai in straight sets, 6-4 7-5. That’s a win he really needed these days!

Tennis, A New Lesson In Self-Sabotage
Tennis has really outdone itself this year in the amount of nonsense of its scheduling. It's a master class at this point. New (manic) stage: The Asian Swing.

That’s obvious and that’s what I’ve written. I’m just saying that players who decide to play exhibition instead of using the recovery time have then no ground to come and complain about the calendar. Which is kinda obvious.
carolebouchard.bsky.social
Also (top)players don’t get appearance fees in 1000s cause it’s not allowed so they get them all at the 500 level… And also at the 250 level for some.
carolebouchard.bsky.social
250s are now an endangered species on the atp side but they’re vital for so many players… Really expanding the 1000s just made everything else implode. The summer schedule is insane…
carolebouchard.bsky.social
Top players have mandatories in the 500s and these 500 draws are packed and depend on these names. You take the mandatory off the 1000 and look at what happens, Monte-Carlo being a good example.
carolebouchard.bsky.social
I’ll add these are players already making absolute bank with appearance fees, prize money and sponsors… They don’t even need the exhibitions money so we’re not here talking about make or break butter on their bread :)
carolebouchard.bsky.social
They def play it for money. No problem. But then they cannot come and complain about the official calendar. They’re the ones packing up their schedule with things they don’t ave to play…
carolebouchard.bsky.social
How are these tournaments going to stay alive if top players are giving weeks off? I ne so how is the rest of the field gonna make a living? Also we perfectly know that these top players would fill these free weeks with exhibitions…No, they made a terrible mistake w/ the 2-week 1000s and here we are
carolebouchard.bsky.social
They need to fox that schedule because right now it is a mess, but if Carlos really wanna help the rest of the field he needs to not be the one complaining about the schedule :)
carolebouchard.bsky.social
Exhibitions are making him a small fortune (way more than winning a 500 even w/ appearance fees) without any stress and with very little duties… I don’t think it’s his artist heart talking at all, really… No issue, but then he cannot complain about the calendar…
carolebouchard.bsky.social
Yeah, agreed… But surely something can get better than what’s happening now. The Sigh.
