Taught Management, but would prefer to support subversion. Suspect that in my specialism, judgment is more important than knowledge. Think that ‘maybe’ is the most wonderful word in the English language.
Still sunny here in west Lancashire 😎

Really important point. Even if we go back to a Democrat President, they’ll continue the refocus of USA on the Pacific. Whatever happens, Europe will have to defend itself from finlandisation at the hands Russia 😠

😳 was there an outbreak of acne in autumn 24?

It’s lovely…
Is it where the Houses of Parliament were before they fell down? (Asking for a friend living 20 years from now!)

You can see a logic here, if they can position solar powered satellites in permanent sunshine, then might the terrifying energy demands be met?

… or is he an immigrant colonising a small, over populated state? 🤔

For several years now, I’ve been delighted to see a growing recognition of the contribution of the north to NATIONAL news, not just local stories.
What’s going on in Manchester and, increasingly Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle is of significance to the whole UK
Thanks

👏👏👏👏👏 hooray for the Northern journalist community! (And you, in particular, today! 😁)👏👏👏

Yes, that makes of my own view of Starmer. I suspect that these statements etc. don’t actually reflect Starmer’s views but the Blue Labour nasties around him.

But I remember back to the early 70s when Heath completely changed tack in govt. Not a great result for him, but are there wiser options?

Oh rats, had to go and listen to it…😊

Just stop at York, a bit of Surrey dropped off by mistake on the way south…it might fool the gremlins?

I think that the two Eds were the last leading politicians who had the intellectual heft to think through our long term problems.
I don’t know if Ed M would want the job or if they could work better with each other than the last time.
But, perhaps foolishly, I’ll hope

The danger of your valid point is that we do nothing 😑 in the short term, perhaps admitting that privatisation of water firms has lead to investments in land use rather than water management? And perhaps more reservoirs and better management of water courses might help?

Disagree, the core flaw in this govt was their refusal, before the election, to admit that 14 years of chaos + pandemic spending required us to raise taxes (hopefully only for a few years) from that failure has grown nearly all of their humiliating U-turns and their apparent look of incompetence

Makes sense to me, but what do I know?
February 8, 2026 at 11:16 PM
Don’t think McSqueezy going will help (unless McSqueezyism leaves with him) the targeting of govt activity on ephemeral polling has, along with the imbecilic refusal to campaign in 2034 on the need for tax rises (based on 1992 polling) destroyed a government.

Don’t know, I’ve read any of them, but are Alistair Heath’s articles as ignorant as his headings?
February 7, 2026 at 4:39 PM
Hmm, 🤔 I’ve often wondered whether if the Jacobites had stuck in Scotland and not pushed on to Derby; might the house of Stewart still reign in an independent Scotland?

I recognised the Farquharson style & title immediately. I’ve had an old Farquhason print in my room since childhood and moving to Liverpool allowed me to go and see the original in the Lady Lever gallery in Port Sunlight 😊
