Also, she just got off the non-existent tube station again. And while I’m here, the Trafalgar Arms is in Tooting. Greenwich has the Tavern. It’s regularly on lists of ‘must-see’ pubs in London, so really not that hard to check.

Oh, for the love of God. You can't walk out of a building next to Greenwich park, straight onto the Thames Path. THERE IS AN ENTIRE NAVAL COLLEGE IN THE WAY! (Guess what I'm still reading?)

(And I know books are very hard to write, and even finishing a novel, let alone publishing it, is a huge accomplishment. But seriously. The TUBE station? TWICE?)

… or one coffee place, with a queue. Depending on which page you are on. How an editor didn’t pick any of this up is beyond me. I’m no expert (see bio) but if you’re going to put the name of a place in the title of a novel, then surely you know locals might read it? And notice a lack of research?

Case(s) in point: there have already been *two* mentions of the local tube station. Greenwich market is described in great detail, and sounds a bit like what you’d *expect* a market to look like and sell, unless you’d actually been to Greenwich market. Oh, and it either has cafes (plural) in it…

Less than 20 pages into this novel which is supposedly set in Greenwich, it is *very* apparent that it has been written by someone who has never set foot in Greenwich.

We did once make one for a friend (as part of a virtual escape room...) Looking at it again some surfaces are little ropey, but still quite proud of the fact that we managed 30 clues without using the same indictor more than once!

Ah. I enjoyed it, none the less!

Understand the concern, but if you’re going to directly ask someone to withdraw, he’s the one to ask. I have huge respect for the authors who have pulled out, but it’s a personal choice, and I can see why trans authors, in particular, may decide not to. I’m not sure they are the ones to target.

Out of interest, have you also emailed John Boyne to ask him to withdraw?

Third in our local pub quiz tonight which I’ll happily take… especially since @gjmale.bsky.social got the exact answer for the spot prize AND the tie-breaker for the spot prize and won a free drink. Best team-mate ever :-)

Bad and bro would make an excellent rap duo…

There is something very pleasing about that. We semi-regularly go to a local quiz, where the music round goes up by decades (first song 60s, next 70s), etc. tend to top out at the 90s, occasionally the 2000s if it’s early enough. Dua Lipa is our go-to answer for anything later!
