Big congratulations to Chunk for taking the crown as this year's #FatBearWeek winner! Today feels like as good a day as any to tell you all about a little trick that bears have to ensure pregnancy takes place during OPTIMAL FATNESS.
A very fat bear standing in a river. He is brown and furry, with a broken jaw which makes his tongue stick out.

That’s interesting and definitely an excuse to go and see if you can spot them!

Oh yes! I absentmindedly deleted it. All eyes on the inbox on Thursday then.

Yes, exactly, there’s always a reason to go see it. I felt pretty good about not seeing it again & then I played the soundtrack to drown out a thunderstorm for my dog & the very same day had booked a cheap Monday night.

Thanks Anne! Maybe need to get myself on the discord, lol. Wondered if I’ve even entered myself for the lottery or just been unlucky so far.

For the last 6 months, every day, we've added to this thread - and on Saturday, it finished.

Glad not to feel the pressure of missing a day (was only late on 2 days, both due to technical issues!), but on also a bit sad to have stopped.

It was such an interesting way into our project!

200 for #Railway200 - a new thread!

We're 200 days out from the 200th anniversary of the 1st passenger journey on the Stockton & Darlington Railway, on 27 September 1825.

To mark it, we'll post a person a day from the Railway Work, Life & Death project's research.
1920s photograph, showing an old track worker, holding a shovel, stood between two railway lines, with hut and signals in the background. Caption reads ‘A veteran permanent-way man’.

I am confused by the lottery. Sometimes I get the ballot email letting me book £40 Monday tickets. Is the lottery different?

That’s wonderful, I bet it was a great day!

I love railways. What an anniversary. I’ve been waiting for this one since I was at university writing about steam trains for my dissertation 🤩

It's been quite a day!
The S&DR 200 Journey begins 😃
Huge congratulations to everyone involved in a brilliant start to the weekend's events.

I’m on the case, will sort it ASAP.

Thank goodness he’s on holiday this week 😂

(And I say wag his bum because his tail got amputated as well as his leg, which is obviously incredibly sad but has also produced the cutest whole back end wiggle when he’s happy 😊)

My dog is the complete opposite of any dog I’ve ever known. Does he wag his bum when I get in? Circle around my legs? Jump up at me? Nope, nada, nein. He sniffs my face intently and then lays there, coolly looking at me, before pawing me to demand a stroke 🙃

Massively appreciate the Lionesses parade is well timed for my lunch break. Pretty emosh watching it 😭😂

Thought I was doing ok with having no more dates in the diary but might need to book to see operation mincemeat again (am not counting the tickets I have for the tour next June. That’s a totally different context obvs)

You have my sympathies, I got stuck in the SWR travel hellhole on Saturday. Travel woes galore. But I am glad you got there and in good time. I hope it goes as well as things like these can.

I’ve been a part of it since 2020 and took over managing it in 2023 when Jo died and days like today are so happy-sad because he was proud of what he created (and rightly so) and days like this are always a moment of reflection to pause and think how much he’s still missed.

Today is the final event for our digital peer mentoring programme 2025 and it is genuinely one of the highlights of my year; reflecting back and celebrating progress. The mentees are fabulous and the mentors just as fabulous.

Omg, I love old family photos. Your mum’s outfit is great. As is yours. And that chair, love it.
