My favorite hobby is reading a nice children’s book to my kid and then finding the most unhinged review of it on Goodreads.

RIP to Joseph Byrd, leader of the 60’s psychedelic band The United States of America.

In an era dominated by the electric guitar, they created one of the most far-out psych albums of the '60s without using one - relying instead on electronic oscillators, music concrète, and electric violin.

10. And this is just a reminder that our soundtrack to the 2024 film DARLA IN SPACE has quite a few tunes that would fit perfectly on your Halloween playlist.
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
9. An Electric Storm - White Noise (1969) - The psychedelic / music concrète project from David Vorhaus and BBC Radiophonic Workshop wizard Delia Derbyshire (among others)
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
8. Other Sounds, Other Worlds - Esquivel (1958) - We believe that Halloween music doesn’t need to fit strictly in the box of ghouls and goblins - there’s room for mid century romantic space fantasy as well!
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
7. Satan is Real - The Louvin Brothers (1959) The Louvin Brothers may be men of god but there’s nothing more metal than this album art (and typeface)
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
6. Stereo Halloween - Unknown (1960s) - Who doesn’t love a good Halloween sound effects record?
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
5. Electronic Hair Pieces - Mort Garson (1969) - This one is more for the album cover as well, but these bizarre synthesizer covers of the musical HAIR wouldn’t be out of place at our Halloween party 😎
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
4. I Hear a New World - Joe Meek (1960) - Delightful outer space musical fantasy concept record from infamous record producer Joe Meek.
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
3. Stereo Dynamics to Scare Hell Out of Your Neighbors (1961) - This one is mostly for the cover, tbh but we love a good record to showcase the power of your modern stereo system.
October 28, 2025 at 5:44 PM
2. Murder, Inc - Irving Joseph (1960) - Anxiety-inducing, noir inspired orchestral selections.

Spooky, strange and otherworldly listening for the season 🔮🎃

1. Zither Magic - Ruth Welcome (1959) - A favorite from an iconic zither Queen.

When this is the introductory paragraph you KNOW it’s about to be a good read.

This is happening TODAY.

We go on at 2 PM.

Come say hi and drink an iced coffee (or cocktail) and shop for vinyl records next door.

Sounds like a perfect autumn Sunday (to me)

This one is more subjective but I think the answer is clear.
