I’m sure it won’t be shocking to hear that the DOJ has, for years now, required indigent defendants to shoulder the cost of producing their discovery to them by similarly requiring attorneys representing them to produce hard drives to the DOJ in order to receive their discovery.

In the early days when we discovered it, we actually were heartened that there was some political will to do something. But yeah, at this point if I hear one more “listening session” has been set up in response to them murdering us, I might lose my mind completely.

They even set up a reporting system to document this violation of Illinois law and then surprise did nothing about it.

Unsurprising that you’re not seeing the opposition to this-you’re not seeing that ICE deploys teargas in our neighborhoods when we surround them on the street and scream at them for taking our neighbors. Or how they point guns at us and push us to the ground when they come to our neighborhoods.

Are any of your colleagues writing about how none of the panel of CJA lawyers representing indigent defendants in federal court have been paid since July and now with the government shut down we won’t be paid until that’s resolved either?
