And you think the world will go back to trusting it? It's not just about Trump. The US has demonstrated the ability to eject a fascist, and will likely do so again. Alliances can only be based on long term stability, and the US has shown it can turn on its allies in a heartbeat.

Exactly. It was just an early statement by James Baker, intended to reassure Gorbachov. But it wasn't practical and didn't make the final statement. The unification agreement states Germany should decide, which they did.

As much as I would love it, the EU should never take the UK back. We have the same media owners as the US, and the minute we rejoined everything would be the EU's fault again, and enough gullibles would fall for it again. An economic union needs to be based on long term stability.
