Now, as per the rule set out in the quoted post, I have earned the right to say the words...

There's this dingy little record store that I always make the time to visit whenever I'm in Dublin called The Sound Cellar, it smells musty and it hasn't changed since I first visited as a kid way back in the 90s, so last time I bought a Bolt Thrower album, it was either Mercenary or For Victory.

He's real good in Looper too

A big thing that impressed me about Kingdoms of the Dump was obviously the pixelart, it is GORGEOUS! I know the developer of Look Outside had a hand in this, I believe with the boss monster designs, but it's top tier pixelart across the board, some wonderfully expressive animations too!

You can also move the characters around a small grid, moving them closer to the enemy you'll do more damage but also take more damage, while moving away reduces the damage you take and deal, and moving is a free action which is nice. It's a really good combat system that's easy to grasp and fun.

So, first thing to note about Kingdoms of the Dump? Very excellent turn-based combat, that also has a timed input system where you can do a little extra damage or take less damage, but doesn't feel as necessary as the timed inputs in Clair Obscur. It's nice to pull off, but not punishing.

How much chaos? Not some, not even a lot, it's TOTAL Chaos!

Yay! :D

Play Nine Sols

Trust me, it's incredible. Deeply challenging metroidvania with Sekiro-inspired parry focused combat, gorgeous hand-drawn artstyle, and an incredible soundtrack, from the developers of Detention and Devotion. It's absolute S-rank good.

"You have to be at least open to the possibility here Scully, we know someone or some thing is sending out a signal."

"That may be so Mulder, but that doesn't mean it's the Scatman."

"Then who is calling out from Scatland, Scully? Who's calling out from Scatman's World?"

Oh, this was a very good essay, go read it everyone, but on a personal note? Thank you for this. 😊

The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

I started playing Captain Wayne on stream the other day, a very fast moving retro FPS game where you play as a pirate with a shotgun arm, and it's really surprised me, it's got an extremely manic cartoon energy to it that reminds me of Antonblast, and a kinda MSPaint One Piece art style. It's neat.

All the naysayers about crypto, the metaverse, NFTs, and AI were 100% on the money to call bullshit.

Hey, remember when we were all going to go to work in the metaverse wearing VR goggles? And how that certainly happened, and the haters were completely wrong? It's the future, don't be left behind!

Nearly every single day I have games like this clogging up my inboxes, and it's such a time wasting endeavour, as I have to sort through and filter out all the AI generated shovelware, and it just won't stop. No matter how clear I am that I am not interested in AI slopware, it keeps coming.

All aboard everyone!

Hey, look at this weird gargoyle from my town, isn't it neat? Supposedly it depicts a monkey that rescued a baby from a burning building, or so the stories go. I love this little guy.

Even myself, half the time I feel like a complete fraud that doesn't belong amongst my peers, despite what I know consciously, that I work hard at what I do and try my best, but the little voice the little doubt just keeps crawling back up form its dark hiding place. It's insidious.

Share a 90s movie you think deserves more love...

Breakdown! I've been thinking again about the late J.T. Walsh, one of those all-timer "that guy!" actors, a name you mightn't know but you'd absolutely recognize him and go "holy shit, it's that guy!"

Anyway, he was great in this with Kurt Russell
