Those are my student from Penn's ELP (English Language Programs - remember when you joined one of our classes on Zoom to talk about being a journalist?). They've just arrived in the past month from Oman, and they've loved getting into Penn sports. :)

Another tricky one is how "few" and "a few" are actually quite different: "We saw a few birds today" vs. "We saw few birds today." I'm an English teacher to speakers of other languages, and trying to explain the English language sometimes drives me crazy.

A couple of things: 1) Remember how many other international players take time to get things going (Gazdag was one of them). 2) Culture/language shock is REAL. If you or I move to a new country for work, it'll take months to be productive in the same way. Athletes are just like us "normal" people.
