It’s not up to Biz. It’s up to FN leaders who have already stated that they will withdraw consent if any changes are made to the tanker ban.

The MOU jeopardizes real projects that have already been announced in BC because FN consent is contingent on the tanker ban remaining unchanged.

Is temporarily shutting up Smith and AB, where Libs won only 4 seats, worth risking major projects and infuriating BC, where they won 21 seats?

It’s pretty safe to assume that Ontario won’t accept Alberta having an unfair advantage in attracting data centres.

The MOU undermines existing projects already announced in BC because FN consent is contingent on the tanker ban remaining in full force.

The MOU also undermines Canada’s broader climate policy because other provinces will demand the same carve outs that Alberta is getting.

Right. The pipeline will never happen, so neither will the pathways project and the MOU is just empty theatre.

Unfortunately that empty theatre puts real projects in BC at risk because FN consent for those projects is contingent on the tanker ban remaining in force.

Infuriating the province where you won 21 seats to appease the province where you won only 4 is not a winning strategy.
