Most people who would make the CSAM criticism won't touch xitter with a ten foot pole. The diehards might even feel like the site is becoming more legitimate if pushback on xitter has decreased since the New Year due to critics deleting.

Also, once dessert is on the table the parts of Europe whose cuisine is normally discounted in these sorts of discussions start looking a lot better.

I thought he originated the "Samson Option" name, but my memory is spotty.

Otherwise, yes, that's just standard deterrence for an arsenal like theirs.

I thought the (supposed, definitely not real) Samson Option was that they were going to nuke uninvolved nations in the Muslim world or Europe if they got successfully invaded.

By implicating as much of the military as co-conspirators in his crimes as he can.

Not saying it's not a very long shot.

It's pretty much ass-covering because he knows he's doing them dirty, but still not good that Thomas Harris writing a famously transphobic pulp novel in 1988 was more measured and responsible than the current NYT.

The movie is definitely a Nam allegory, they have Born to Kill on their helmets and fly space Hueys, come in overconfident and get destroyed by locals. It's just not an allegory whose moral is "kill the Vietnamese."

These are always creepy because it's so hard to get a handle on these guys' psychology. Are they previosuly well-intentioned narcissists spinning out? Grifters who developed an indifference to human life? Serial killers who monetized their hobby?

Palm Springs kind of did this by showing that the stuff that happens during the loops still carries moral weight.

Yglesiaism was a popular mystery cult among the Roman equestrian class in its day, but by the 4th century it had been stamped out by early Christianity.

Maybe because it's a more philosophical dispute than previous civil rights fights? People went surprisingly nuts over Pluto not being a planet, and that didn't even have political valence.

Did you ever read Cusp by Robert Metzger? I don't know if I would say it's *good* overall in a literary sense, but the density of ideas and the way he keeps topping himself is entertainingly bonkers. I thought it was worth the read.

This is also why complaints that Westeros isn't as religious as a medieval European-esque society should be don't make sense. A few centuries back, half-alien Atlanteans conquered it, killed the pope, installed their chosen pope and have been publicly fucking their sisters ever since.
