The machine is the tool - not the author. Do we give credit to Excel when the Finance person creates the dashboard? No. In terms of AI shaping how we read - that already happened with FB false ads during the elections, and that continues with deep fakes.

There is a meme about this that I think says more than I ever could (see what I did there?)

The coursework has to match their social environment to feel relative and engaging, which in turn will provide meaning and encourage meaning-making and critical thinking skills. Using an antiquated knowledge to look at new situations only works in Math #hiddenfigures #eulersmethod

The internet is interactive - but how do you control what #Leander&Burriss when confirmation bias algorithms restrict their ability to see other viewpoints? It can reinforce what they think, even if its wrong. How do teachers push students to critically review the tool that's supposed to be helping?

I feel like tests are just surveys with a pass/fail attached to them. They measure 1 aspect of learning, the regurgitation of knowledge, rather than the application of it. Teaching a man to fish can also teach patience, but you'll only know about the fishing skills if that's all you ask about.

I'd love to see what they can provide if the "rules" were changed RE: "writing skill" - Like a group of boys playing CoD can organize and collaborate but can't talk about what's bothering them IRL. If you change the environment you get a different result - mb no more round peg in square holes...

If symbols were used instead of words or letters as it is now - do we think this would make it easier for neurodivergence to become a strength?

Social media has the answer to that 👍 🤯 or you can have the class peers at other schools or teachers in other schools review it and give it likes as the score. Would certainly make grading and feedback less bias and more applicable to a wider audience

@tonykaczoroski.bsky.social schools should teach communication in emojis and memes. Maybe this isn't professional right now, I wouldn't be surprised if more communication started to happen in "pictures" rather than words. Bet that no one in the cave painting era ever thought it would turn to words.

Traditional #confirmationbias = internal cognitive bias
#Posthuman #meaningmaking = bias co-created with algorithms
#Leander&Burriss make it sound like we went backwards. How can an AI teach if the #algorithm doesn't expand into new ideas but instead is built to reinforce bias? #edu800fall25

As emojis and memes become core #communication tools, #knobel & Lankshear’s insights on new literacies feel urgent. Would it seem ridiculous to have a #literacy class on #emojis in high schools? What about communicating in #mems? These are technically new literacies #edu800fall25

#leu &Forzani state literacy is constantly shifting in meaning alongside #technology & #social change. Its framing feels surprisingly current in describing #literacy as “new every day.” How do we now design #learning so students can adapt as fast as literacy evolves? #edu800fall25
