There has never been a larger gap in my (admittedly quite short) professional life between how lay folks and law profs are talking about what is happening in government right now. So much of what Trump is doing is just blatantly illegal — often in several ways at once.

For clarity sometimes is good to remind yourself it's the Republican Party and its values are the core issue. They condone and enable everything going on in government and have now for decades. They gaslight their base and constantly disregard facts. Their beliefs are the toxin for the country.

We should be rooting for a major recession with high employment in the near future as bad as that sounds. To me, it's the only obvious way to break Trump's hold on enough supporters and thus congress. Even 1-2 more years of this is going gravely damage the country, if it hasn't already.

In the same vein as the Doomsday Clock, someone needs to start a Storming the Bastille Clock but for the US. I cannot imagine Trump in a terrible economy. Even the some of the racists will turn on him.

I could do with a good 10% less 1080p closeups of gaping wounds for the rest of the night.

To state the very obvious, this would put an avowed anti-vaxxer in charge of vaccines, allowing him to thwart the development and approval of life-saving shots. It's almost too horrific to fathom—a potential death sentence for our families and children. It's lethal. www.politico.com/news/2024/11...
Trump expected to select Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead HHS
The choice will roil many public health experts after his years of touting debunked claims that vaccines cause autism.

People actively rooting for one social media site vs another is weird. It doesn't matter because it's all echo chambers for the vast majority of social media brained users.

I'm genuinely confused to why so many people are leaving twitter now. Musk showed us who he was and was going to be within days of taking over the bird site. There were dozens more record scratch examples after that point in time as well. Reminds me of this hell site chestnut:

Oscar night is always peak twitter/bluesky for people getting mad online.

I'm happy that 2023 was a very good year for movies. The Marvel curse seems to be finally breaking.

Saw Dune 2 Part 2 today in IMAX with the 70mm. After being somewhat lukewarm about Part 1, I though Part 2 was fantastic. Go see it. I'd be shocked if doesn't get a 2025 best picture nomination. It's that good. Top notch film making and a sci-fi classic.

The harassment and demonization of Dr. Peter Hotez was the final straw for me on Twitter. The fact that it was at least partly lead by Elon Musk was just too much for me to continue using his site. Dr. Hotez is a hero in the truest sense of the word.
