The Civil Service Commissioners meeting today was brief. The only action taken was approval of the Lubbock Fire Rescue Suitability List.

I made a couple of animated videos for the trick-or-treaters since I wasn’t going to be home. Happy Halloween! 🎃

This is fucked up. Washington has paused its new law requiring clergy to report child abuse, even if they hear it during confession. The Catholic Church and Trump’s DOJ argue it violates the 1st Amendment by singling out religious practice. A federal judge agreed, citing religious freedom concerns.
WA state law requiring clergy to report child abuse on hold
A federal judge in Tacoma on Friday blocked a law that would have required priests to break penitent privilege to report suspected child abuse.

I wore my ‘No Kings’ shirt today. Got a few curious looks from the locals.

Oh cool, I uploaded a regular photo and ChatGPT turned it into this. Fantastic. At this point, I should probably just hand over my job and let the robots finish what they started.

WTF is going on?! Four top Silicon Valley execs were just sworn in as U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonels — a rank that usually takes nearly 20 years to earn.

The Army says it’s aiming to bridge tech and defense.

I downloaded the iOS 26 beta a few days ago. Haven’t run into any major bugs so far. I’m really liking some of the new layouts, especially CarPlay. The “liquid glass” look is interesting, but it might take a little time to get used to.

My granddaughter Lily’s birthday is coming up and apparently Labubu is the big thing right now. I don’t get the hype, but hey, it’s still cheaper than the Hermès handbags I see grown adults clipping them onto like some kind of sacred charm. So, Labubu it is!

Today's Civil Service Commissioners meeting ran long. We reviewed four Fire Captain exam appeals, tabling one for next week's special meeting, approved second readings on position name changes, and appointed a three-member panel for a fit-for-duty review. Tabled items will be addressed next week.

Today’s Civil Service Commission meeting was shorter than expected. We amended job titles, changing “Fire Duty Chief” to “Assistant Chief,” appointed a new physician, heard an appeal on the fire lieutenant exam, approved the updated eligibility list, and tabled a disciplinary appeal until July.

ABBA hits #1 today in 1977 with “Dancing Queen” — their only #1 song in the US.

When co-writer Benny Andersson played the backing track for his bandmates, Agnetha Fältskog said she burst into tears. “I knew it was absolutely the best song ABBA had ever done."

We're on our own, folks. No more funding for treatment. Meanwhile, hospitals in West Texas are reporting cases of children with liver damage after parents, following RFK Jr.'s advice, gave them excessive amounts of vitamin A and cod liver oil. Source: www.cnn.com/2025/03/26/h...
Health officials say federal cuts will hurt Texas’ measles response
Federal grants paid for workers to help with measles testing and vaccination in Lubbock and were going to help equip a Dallas lab to test for pathogens, including measles.

Arrived in beautiful San Diego to spend time with the grandkids! It’s always a joy to see how much they’ve grown. Looking forward to making special memories whether it’s playing at the park, exploring the beach, or simply soaking in their laughter and energy. Feeling so grateful to be here!

2nd Civil Service Commissioners mtg of the month. Today’s session lasted 4 hours. We reviewed 17 appeals regarding the Fire Equip. Ops promotional exam. A big thank you to all the firefighters who attended and to the dedicated city HR team for their hard work in facilitating the appeals process.

With Lubbock and the West Texas Panhandle at the center of a measles outbreak, I was concerned about whether I needed an MMR booster. I scheduled an appointment at Walgreens to get the shot but was turned away. The pharmacist was adamant that I didn’t need it and refused to administer the vaccine…

One of two civil service commissioners meetings for this month. The agenda included two police sergeant promotional exam appeals and the approval of police eligibility lists. The meeting was brief.

Alright, who took down the mighty tortilla machine? Because they 100% deserve a swift kick in the ass. H-E-B tortillas are sacred and now I have to suffer with store-bought sadness? Unforgivable.

I’m honored to have been reappointed as the Civil Service Chair at today’s commissioners meeting. The agenda also included a resolution amending local civil service rules on reappointments and resignations (first read), as well as the approval of police corporal source list.
