in part 2, i define slop and describe why gen AIs are particularly well-suited for it. algorithms run the 2020s internet and elevate engagement at the cost of any other metric. AIs are capable of optimizing for the algorithm by mass-reproducing things that already generate engagement.

in part 1, i discuss why AI has become such a beloved fascist propaganda tool. because AI can only aggregate what has already been made, it creates nostalgic, conservative images by design. this is pleasing to fascists who see european-style representational art as embodying "western values."
