Part of me is wondering if things would have been better here if the French did a raid on Westminster and took Farage, Hanan, Johnson et al. post Brexit vote. It wasn't in their national interest after all..

Which could well result in it being the beginning of Starmer, we're a fickle lot..

That would imply some sort of care for the troops.

Under article 5 each nation decides what their response will be. The US could simply choose to respond by sending blankets or thoughts and prayers, meeting their obligation.

He really needs to settle on a clear stance for it as it will be what he gets pulled up on in every interview or debate and could be the difference between being seen as electable or a comedy/protest candidate. It's a certainly a deal breaker for me, lets see where it goes.

Imo the greens should talk about strengthening all of our alliances and particularly enhancing our relationship with European allies. But having a clear aim of leaving NATO just puts people off. I'm pretty left of center and am disappointed with the stance. That's all.

20 years ago you could have said the same about the US, how could they become unreliable? How about if the AFD gets in?
I'm not aligned to a party and didn't vote for labour, it leaves me able to be critical of all parties and not have blind loyalty. Yes I'm also disappointed in Labour..

If only the greens matched progressive domestic policy with realistic, grown up foreign policy. Sadly they seem naive on that front and that will prevent them from being perceived as a serious political force.

Sadly the Greens remain a party for the world we would like to live in, not one for the world we do live in.

And back to my point, you leave NATO as you consider the US to be unreliable. What do you do when you consider your key European allies unreliable in 10 or 20 years? Perhaps at that point the US may be deemed reliable? Ahhh let's leave the new one and make another. Reactionary nonsense.

If they are unreliable then the other members take up slack and do more.

I think using trump as a reason to exit NATO is opportunistic nonsense, I trust that the Americans will pull themselves together eventually. You might as well never have any foreign alliance if you are going to leave it when you don't like the result of their democratic elections.
