A few days later, Nemar Jhan sets out with four squads of wardens, in addition to a carriage, two carts with supplies, chests full of weapons and armor, and twenty servants to run errands, care for the horses and drive the carriage and carts. The wardens along with their support staff board three military barges. The weather is good for sailing, with a strong wind that fills the sails of the barges. Jhan takes the opportunity to lower his mental barriers, and stretch his outer senses. There are spirits, going about their own business, and ghosts. With his eyes closed, he can sense animals--river dolphin, giant otter, parrots and other birds, monkeys, gray hyena, deer, cavy, hare. He senses the more complicated presences of other people along the river. Traders, hunters, farmers, fishermen. A tiny snip from my WIP, Lord of the Black Mountain.

I often forget that city wildlife is a Thing. And then I see a bunny. Or a ground squirrel (or whatever it was) cheeping irritably at me from it's den. #bun #bunsighting

adorable and sweet (he's actually a little brat) black lab-pit mix looking up toward camera. He is lying on his side on the sidewalk at the park.
