And it’s not just obvious dogwhistles either. I hate it now when I see a fan concede ground to the haters by saying stuff like “oh S2 was SO much better!” Cos I’m a bit: ok what was it about S1 you didn’t like? Because not all my theories on the answer are gonna make me trust that person is a fan…

And then even if I saw TROP friendly spaces in 22-23 there was the usual crap from people who just can't help themselves being an armchair Freud about women who enjoy M/F ships that aren't sunshine and fluffy bunnies. Like, I didn't want to be accused of supporting SA in my funtime nonsense space 🙃

I think S2 having a *little* less (but unfortunately not zero) of the rabid TROP haters brought more people out of the shadows. Personally I loved the ship in S1 (even only suspecting his identity) but seeking the fandom for the show AND ship in 2022 genuinely brought me near tears. It was awful.

I don't THINK more = better necessarily. And it's tiny compared to some fandoms (a certain Star Wars ship...your numbers scare me - meant affectionately) but it's nice that despite getting crap thrown at us on two fronts, people still keep posting their work.

I think when I started seeking out Haladriel fic to read there wasn't even 1000 tagged fics on AO3 yet (think it was about 800.) But I've spoken to people who remember when there were only dozens in the tag too 😂

Anyway, just noticed we're not far off 1900 now!

Also yeah, there's some stuff I could say about how this show handles the question of gender and sexuality regarding not just the main "character" (feels weird, he was a real person) but several others too. However, I don't feel I'm qualified enough. Suffice to say it gets a YIKES from me.

Is it me, or is there something a BIT off by ending a thing about a very notorious criminal with a montage of "hey look at all these cool works that were inspired by his awfulness!" and THEN implying he's got a pretty sweet afterlife hanging out with his mum?
