3. Blavatnik made his fortune investing in Russia alongside sanctioned Russian oligarch Victor Vekselberg. Blavatnik and Vekslberg bought a stake in the Russian oil company TNK, which they sold in 2017, netting Blavatnik $7 billion.

Blavatnik and Vekslberg also co-invested in Russian aluminum.
