I don't have too much experience with Ubuntu outside of using it in the math lab classes I took in college. Consult user friendly, but I had no earthly idea what I was doing in it at the time. I've heard that it can be very user friendly tho. youtu.be/YCrREpTw-PI

Czech kolaches are like a pastry with a fruit topping that rests in a little cup in the center of the pastry. American kolaches are like a big pigs-in-a-blanket: they're elongated pastries with a kielbasa style sausage in the middle

Nice! I tried Mint, but I didn't like the customization options with the Cinnamon KDE. so I installed Manjaro on my desktop

Hell yeah! Which distro did you end up settling on? Or are ya thinking about switching to another that might be more your style?

I am pleased to tell you that developers of Linux distributions and apps have not gotten high on their own supply, and in fact have gotten a bit wiser to the fact that their setup isn't user friendly..and they've made big strides in rectifying that

.....I mean, it's a little more work since you're starting from scratch. But that's just how we used to do things back when we built PCs back in the day, right? It's just like going back and installing XP, except everything is on you to troubleshoot and learn how to fix

Alternatively: you could try out Linux? Most distros have .iso files that allow you to try out/install it via a Live USB. So you can test out the distro and KDE (aka the GUI/desktop environment) that the distro you wanna try out has

one caveat that I do want to mention, since you mentioned an external hard drive - depending on what distro you pick, if you want the external to be registered as a permanent connected drive, you may need to do some tinkering in the terminal

there are tons of videos and guides that can provide help

each of those distros comes with their different pros and cons. But above and beyond, the most user-friendly Linux distro out of the lot is Mint.

If you're like me, and want a little more customization, with access to Arch-style coding, then I'd look into Manjaro and give that a try

I should note that a Kernel-level Desktop Environment (KDE) is not the same as the operating system...it more or less acts as the GUI for your PC.

if you want user-friendly operating systems, I'd recommend looking some up. Mint, PopOS, Bazzite, Manjaro, and CachyOS are all fairly user friendly

hi there you two. If i may butt in on this conversation, I recently made the switch to Linux on both my laptop and my PC.

Steam Deck runs StreamOS, which uses Arch Linux as its base distro. If you switch your Steam Deck into desktop mode, you'll essentially just be seeing Arch with a Plasma KDE
