I believe the story is all crap. But I love the story of Oskar never-the-less. A cute book I recommend: Oskar of the Bismarck. You can find it in Kindle.

I think it's the story, not the ship itself, that appeals.
And let's face it, we have the Royal Navy and the Brits to thank for her mythical status. They needed to beef Bismarck up to make up for the loss of Hood, and make themselves look great when the 'monster' was killed.
