And sure, I didn't grow up with the books (I read some of them but I wasn't an avid reader when I tried). But I still think that attachment to the movies gives me enough right to say I *was* a fan.
But that's the key word. I WAS one. I'm not anymore.

So I just think it's cowardly and childish to be unable to say "You know what? I shouldn't engage with or support this anymore." I did it. I don't see why other people can't.

The movies do *try* to attempt to fix some of the more problematic elements of the book, but it's basically like putting sprinkles on a shit sundae. The movies aren't really worth salvaging either or making excuses for. Besides, you just end up being on the same side as people who wholely support HP

Y'know I feel like I've got such a strong opinion about this because the movies were very big/important to me as a person. I watched them at an impressionable age (with Kevyn!) and I just adored them.

I just find it so funny that the hill they're dying on is HP. It's not a very good IP. Even divorced from the author it's not worth saving. But people just can't face that reality. It's basically immune from "Death of the Author" (in a literal sense) because even putting aside her wretched views
