When it comes to chardonnay, I’m partial to Burgundy and Cape wines. But this little Limoux number from Languedoc is my go-to supermarket wine. With tonight’s homemade pumpkin ravioli, it’s her baked apple and honey flavours that are on the main stage.

I’m anti-establishment when it comes to wine, but a sucker for Châteauneuf du Pape. We took the 2020 vintage for a test drive on Saturday; after letting her breathe some, she came to life beautifully. Fruit-forward, with a touch of vanilla tobacco. We’ll let the other bottle nap for a few years.

Friday night lights with Patrick Bouju’s Môl from the Loire. This is one of my partner’s favourite wines, and (alongside me) proof of his good taste. Another writer called this is wine a “mosaic” and I honestly couldn’t describe it better. Môl is funky, fruity, in-your-face, and deliciously tangy.
