What they need to bring back is the early 80's sub-compact cars. I had an 80's Pontiac Sunbird, which got 30+ miles to the gallon on the old 'iron duke' 4-Cyl. engine.
With today's lighter materials they could easily remake sub-compact cars that get 50+ mpg and make them affordable.
