Bolano’s book is well written, and easy enough to read, and yet after hundred pages I wasn’t interested in where it was going. So I picked up Hemingway instead, and finished it in a few days. I do understand the allure of his straightforward writing, it calms me down.

I read the book I don’t like before going to bed, and I dreamed of a book I should read instead. The author name was Roberto Bolano. I know the name, but I don’t have his books, and it’s the first time my dream was so clearly instructive.

I struggle to find good writing nowadays. Every book I open randomly is either distasteful, filled with cliches, or (and it’s the worst) you can feel immediately - writer hated their life when they wrote it.
