You'd freak the fuck out too. Imagine the person who is supposed to love and support you unconditionally telling you that your problem is stupid and your pain is unjustified so you better shut the fuck up. That's gonna leave damage on a little developing brain.

Look at it through their eyes. Acknowledge their pain. Let them know their feelings are valid and that you're right there with them. Offer empathy not judgment. Imagine yourself losing something that you absolutely treasure. Imagine if you lacked life experience and ability to regulate your emotions

Like, yes, as a Mom, I understand that sometimes our kids have a meltdown over the funniest shit. But in that moment, they are in PAIN. They are distraught. To you, it's a dumb cheap teddy they lost. To them, in their whole 3 years of life, it's the most soul destroying tragedy they've ever felt.
