I should also mention, enrolment is done online. We have a national document verification service that has access to pretty much every Government database...

We (in Oz) need ID to enrol at 18 or when you become a citizen (which is compulsory), however you don't need ID when you vote (but they do look you up when you collect the ballots and cross you off as having voted, coz if you don't you will be fined).

We have mechanisms to ensure everyone can vote (pre-poll, overseas polling, postal). The culture is that everyone knows it is the societal RESPONSIBILITY to participate. One thing *I DO* wish we had, that you do, is longer fixed terms.

We (Australia) have mandatory voting (at all levels of Government). The reason for this is that it is the ONLY way to get a representative Government. Our elections are on a Saturday, and are a bit of a festival, there is no material queuing. 1/2

In his 1889 Tenterfield Oration, Sir Henry Parkes referenced the American Civil War, stating: "Surely what the Americans have done by war, the Australians could bring about in peace".

Not many of us can remember being deported ;)..... We are typically considered a "compliant" society because we generally believe that "the rules" are there to protect everyone. Yes some of the rules are ridiculous, and a pain in the arse, but again - for the good of our society we comply.

As an outside observer, I think WHEN your party next forms Government, it would be a wise investment in your population to create an actual public health system like the rest of the developed world. That will solve the issue once and for all.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Our most sacred day of commemoration is ANZAC Day, 25 April. I am sure you studied the Gallipoli campaign, a military failure, and the day we invaded another nation we were at war with as part of The British Empire and Commonwealth and Allies (everyone forgets the French were there!).

Mate, I am so confused by American use of "Happy". Remembrance Day/Armistice Day/Veteran's Day is a commemoration, not a celebration, it's pretty bloody solemn.
