📢 New paper out in Scientific Reports!
We found links b/t brain activity & emotional outcomes in women with chronic postsurgical pain.
🧠 More SMC activation → more anxiety/depression
🧠 More PFC activation → lower chronic stress (via hair cortisol)
No moderation by pain intensity.

So proud of my amazing hubby! He is transforming the lives of patients needing kidney transplants and working hard to reduce barriers for Hispanic patients.

Today, I had the honor of participating in this amazing panel to talk about organ donation, particularly those barriers that affect the Hispanic community. It was a privilege to listen to my co-panelists share their stories about their journeys with organ donation

This is very important! We don’t want to minimize the pain experience & also want to properly prepare kids (& adults) for things like injections. I am a #chronicpain researcher & a lot of untreated #pain in kids can lead to chronic pain in adults.

Science saves lives! I am a scientist. On a personal level, I have benefited greatly from science for all the reasons cited below.
Science is why I have my 2nd baby #IVF & why my beautiful nephew who is living w/ a horrific disease #Duchenne #DMD has a shot at life.

We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.”

I did have to give birth in May 2020 though so I’m lucky the stress of the pandemic & @hecmagsmd.bsky.social working w/ COVID patients didn’t result in high BP/ adverse outcomes!

My Ob was a bit surprised by the MFM rec given that I didn’t have preeclampsia w/my 1st only a few years earlier. My Ob said that was a better predictor of preeclampsia than age; however the aspirin at age 40 & older was the guideline so I should just take it. I did & all was well.

This is interesting. When I was pregnant with my 2nd since I was going to turn 40 2 weeks prior to my due date, MFM had me follow the “40 yr old” protocol, which was to take baby aspirin daily I think around 27 weeks but I can’t exactly recall when it was started.
