The biggest issue for this calendar is head-to-head regular season television matchups against the NFL on Saturdays in Dec. I personally don't give a crap about the NFL, but this would hinge on a deal to keep the NFL off Saturdays until after Christmas, or suck it up and go head to head for ratings.

This resulted in having to start the season one week earlier, which is ok, but it's a change we'd have to get used to. This also means rivalry week would shift to the week before Thanksgiving which I don't love.

Although, I think we could do without the conference championship games and give teams a bye and just have Army-Navy then. However, I kept them in and assumed that the 'power conference" winners get rewarded with a first round bye in a 12 team playoff.

I used OSU's academic calendar as template just to have something to start from. Working backwards from a New Year's Day National Championship end point, I accounted for the current playoff structure, the bowl season, conference championship games and then 14 weeks of regular season.

First, we start with the end in mind of getting back to New Year's day as the culmination of the season. Beyond the traditional reasons, this is practical because it would give a short amount of time to fit in the coaching carousel, the transfer portal, and signing day before the 2nd semester.

Yeah, it's not looking good.
