I generally think this is better than, say, City who are incredibly reliant on Haaland to score pretty much all their goals.

As you say, Arsenal could prob do with a few more goals/"goalscorers", but I wouldn't want a City thing. Low-key think that's been a problem for them for the last few years

I thought their 1st half was pretty good, mostly because it kept the tie alive and that's not a bad strategy imo. And to then bing on your top talents, hit the next gear and start suffocating the oppo.

But goddamn, there was no next gear. At all. They had next to nothing to challenge Arsenal with.

He's the best (and arguably only) real central threat in that Arsenal team.

And the partnership with Merino was great. Not something they should use every game, but bizarre that Arteta has completely moved away from it. Arsenal's best performances came with those guys in the central areas.

Insinuating that the main problem people have are the books is so unbelievably dumb

And also, even the youngest in gen Z are kinda old now lol. We're really not the target audience for HP, so the entire thesis for the article is kinda irrelevant (even if it wasn't dumb and wrong, which it is)
January 27, 2026 at 6:50 AM
Again, I feel a bit guilty to say too much as I haven't/can't read it, but the headline and excerpt is pure insanity.

Headlining with "the Harry Potter generation needs to grow up" is such BS... maybe it's the transphobes who need to grow the fuck up??
January 27, 2026 at 6:50 AM
Tbf I can't read the article because I'm not a subscriber, but as a gen Z who's read HP (a long time ago), I can definitively say that my "falling out of love" has 0 to do with HP or what's in them, and everything to do with the transphobe who wrote them.

Isn't he also wide more often this season than before? Or at least not getting the same conditions to cut inside in the same way?

I feel like he's getting platformed worse this season than previous ones.

Still, he's absolutely not the problem. Literally the only attacker who looks dangerous atm
January 27, 2026 at 6:15 AM
I don't think they lack gears - I just don't think they're able to flick that switch often enough. I think that's partly because of platforming and personnel (not platforming Saka, not picking Eze etc), but I also think this team has a mental block.

They lost their heads, similar to v Liverpool

"Both sides-ing" a full-on execution that's been seen by the entire world is utter insanity.

It's depressing that so much of journalism now seems to be about pleasing "both sides" and not about finding out and spreading the truth. That's their job!!

All-black kits often look sooo nice.

Kinda surprised that clubs don't do it more often.

Sending love and support from Sweden. I couldn't hold back tears when I saw the video...

I hope you, your friends and family manage to stay safe.

Aren't the relatively low xG numbers cause for concern?

Also the price... considering what Atletico paid for him in the first place, they'll prob want >100m euros. I like Alvarez a lot, but that'd be so much for someone who I'm not sure would be a certain starter at Arsenal with everyone fit
January 23, 2026 at 4:26 PM
Why can't PL teams do more of this?

All we get is league mandated stuff that players (successfully) protest and gets watered down
January 23, 2026 at 10:34 AM
Yeah for sure.

And you're totally right on Zubimendi btw. What a massive difference he's made for Arsenal, and could've made for other teams.

Rice/Zubimendi is an incredible duo
January 17, 2026 at 3:02 PM
Honestly tho, look at any side that is struggling: if you say that the problems are in midfield, you'd prob be right.

Guehi will help them, but City looked open af with Gvardiol and Dias at CB.

Midfield continues to be weirdly underappreciated.
January 17, 2026 at 2:54 PM
The midfield is technically extremely good still, but the physical deficiencies are massive and so blatantly obvious. Cannot for the life of me understand why they haven't adressed it.

Especially since they were in for Rice! 2 ½ years ago!! So weird that they pivoted to Kovacic and Reijnders since
January 17, 2026 at 2:51 PM
True, altho hasn't that mostly been in attack? Where they really needed an overhaul was midfield, but they still haven't adressed it. I mean, here they are, still going Silva and a newly returned Rodri.

And the FBs... younger sure, but wow do they struggle with being alert and defending space.
January 17, 2026 at 2:44 PM
There are *a lot* of unlikeable players in the PL, or hell, even just Chelsea.

He's prob the worst of the worst tho. Unbearable
January 14, 2026 at 10:03 PM
I def think there are the occasional corner goals that *really* tow the line, but the 1-0 tonight absolutely was not one of them.

Sanchez just completely fucks up
January 14, 2026 at 9:13 PM
So far it's one of the softest individual Arsenal performances I've seen in a while. He looks so, so flat and the body language will no doubt drive Arteta mad.

Also telling that Arteta is telling Lewis-Skelly to "focus".

They look awful, yet are still winning (so far) lol
January 11, 2026 at 2:31 PM
Just to further to this:
I'm currently watching the Portsmouth game, and Arsenal are still taking AGES to take their throw-ins.

Bottom tier Championship opposition, yet the insane slowing down continues. I don't get it
January 11, 2026 at 2:25 PM
I noticed it in a game not too long ago, but yes.

Personally think it's a lot to do with not having Ødegaard for much of this season. Or, perhaps more importantly, White. Feels like that was the combo where it was used the most
January 11, 2026 at 12:57 AM
Literally the only clever throw-in I can recall is the one where Ødegaard sneaks behind the defensive line and darts toward goal along the byline.

Otherwise they're so frustrating 🙃
January 10, 2026 at 10:58 PM
Startling how far the energy levels dropped from Arsenal in the 2nd half. Late to every duel, so many moments of hesitation...

Arsenal looked like a nervous, worried team in the 2nd half.
January 8, 2026 at 10:06 PM
Why on earth did they leave him in?? Almost seems cruel
