Council for Court Excellence
@ccefordc.bsky.social
At the Council for Court Excellence, we work towards an equitable and accessible legal system in the District of Columbia. Through research, collaboration, advocacy, and public education, we create positive change and increase civic engagement.
There remain two judicial vacancies in the D.C. Court of Appeals and 11 vacancies in D.C. Superior Court next year. We hope the President nominates and the Senate confirms additional judges swiftly in the new year. Congratulations to Stephen F. Rickard, Elana S. Suttenberg, and John Cuong Truong!

This year, we visited all 12 Street Law schools and engaged more than 30 volunteers, helping students build a deeper appreciation for civic duty and connect with leaders in the legal profession.

Thank you to Georgetown Law for being such a strong partner in this work!

Our new report shows that delays at YSC aren’t just administrative — they’re cutting young people off from education, family connection, treatment, and real opportunities for rehabilitation.

A more accessible, plain-language version is already in development and will be released in 2026, so every victim in D.C. can navigate these systems with clarity and support.
November 24, 2025 at 4:13 PM
It includes explanations of victims’ rights, how cases move through D.C.’s unique legal system, options outside of court, and where to find help for urgent needs like protection orders, medical care, legal support, or compensation.

Our coalition will keep pushing for a system based on safety and fairness, not wealth. Our collective voice matters more than ever!
