I think if you already have a billion dollars, gaining another 100 billion probably has near zero added benefit to your life, but it might give you the power to ruin millions of other lives just for fun and get away with it.

What’s wrong with sky “why” when there’s a possible 100% cost overrun? I get that these big projects are very complicated, but that’s an outrageous difference. Seems like we could actually save more money if we understand that “why” instead of shrugging and immediately asking “what should we cut?”
