In any case, his relationship with Mirei is part of his life in the 90s and doesn't really impact the overall chronology of the games since his life in the 90s has not been explored at all.

He didn't treat Makoto perfectly either, since she had to put him in his place for his hypocrisy.
That's my observation of the character, of course, and you have yours, which I respect.

He probably went to her because she's pretty and famous and thought he could find some stability in his life. There's nothing more to say, he made bad choices.
He's unstable for most of the series, and that doesn't make him a nice person for it.

And he hit her because he's incapable of controlling his emotions in the moment and realized he was the problem, then ended the relationship for good because he shouldn't have gotten involved with her in the first place. That's the very principle of their relationship.

We don't really know the circumstances of how they met, but Majima is a yakuza patriarch who beats his subordinates, he's not a good person.

I don't recall him specifying that he hadn't been to Sotenbori since 0, but he did express his displeasure at returning there, that's all and he doesn't elaborate further. At least, that's what I remember, I could be mistaken.

I'm not going to deny that the games has no inconsistencies because it clearly has them, but I think this goes too far.

Whereas the problem with the retcons in Kiwami 3 is that they completely change the continuity of the games' timeline, which necessitates changes for Yakuza 4. The changes in Kiwami 1 and 2, at least, remained relatively harmless in comparison.

Even his behavior in 5 can be explained since Majima is a person who lives in violence, and the stability he seeks cannot be reconciled with the life he leads.

But Majima in 0 isn't really a retcon since the circumstances he finds himself in that game explain his behavior, and the game clearly explains why he adopted his mad dog persona.

And the last chapter is really good considering how it recontextualizes the entire game and his motivation to find the treasure.

The goal is to unburden him, I think.

This game is like an exil for Majima, where he learns to love life and feel truly free of his sins, given that he feels trapped for most of his life. The game definitely has its problems, but I think it adds to his character.

I don't really believe for a second that he hasn't killed anyone, especially with the reputation he's built for himself after 0 and especially by showing himself to be violent and unstable under Shimano's orders.

In their flashback, he seemed pretty confident about doing it with Saejima, and he offered to do it in his place to protect him. I think he really means it when he said that.

I think it has more to do with Makoto, as she is blind and can't defend herself. If Lee was really the target, Majima would have killed him.

it's funny because I see a lot of fans who say the opposite and who say that he is very underdeveloped in this game
