Integrated 'multi-omic' evidence like this gives further support for recommendations to improve freshwater flushing of the Coorong to drive the improvement of nutrient pollution (alongside reducing salinity)

These flows drove succession of microbes toward "healthier" nutrient, carbon and nitrogen cycling in the system.

We also found evidence of many (potentially toxic) compounds, including nylon polymers and carbamates. This warrants a further look in.

We used 16S-seq of eDNA, and metabolomics (LC-MS) to monitor sediment microbiomes throughout 2022.

We initially aimed to look at seasonal variations but ended up capturing the onset of the largest flood in the Murray-Darling Basin since the '50s.
