Happy Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month from CCPU! As a majority woman of color workforce we stand strong in our commitment to fighting for respect and fair pay for child care providers who are historically undervalued and underpayed.

"Our contracts have brought stability and real progress, but the fight isn’t over. We must be paid the true cost of care so providers can earn, and pay our staff, a living wage," said Yolanda Thomas, a child care provider in Contra Costa County and member of CCPU’s negotiations team.

While this contract will stem the tide of providers closing their doors every day due to low pay – an average of 24 per day – reforming provider pay is essential for retaining providers in the workforce.

“Providers fought for and won a contract we can be proud of, one that protects our healthcare benefits and positions us to truly transform the child care system our whole state counts on,” says Anita Vicini, a child care provider in Tuolumne County and member of CCPU’s negotiations team.

This agreement delivers urgent stabilization pay, ongoing cost of living adjustments, protects our benefits, ensures a timeline for the #truecostofcare, and more.

"Providers pour our heart and soul into providing quality care for our children. Yet, many of us struggle to make ends meet," said Rasiene Reece, a child care provider in Victorville and member of CCPU’s negotiations team.

Victory! Child Care Providers ratified our third contract with the state after months of negotiations, rallies, and vigils. This comes after both #CALeg and Governor Newsom have ratified this agreement!

#CCPUCalifornia's tentative agreement with the state provides immediate stabilization for child care providers and essential pathways to the #truecostofcare. We urge #CALeg to ratify this agreement!

Child care providers and the working families we serve are struggling to get by due to rising costs of living and low pay. #CCPUcalifornia's TA with the state uplifts providers and ensures consistent care for families. 🗳️

Families deserve access to affordable child care! ‼️🧑‍🍼 Limited subsidy slots and low pay for providers are limiting access to care. We appreciate Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen for calling this out and we look forward to working together on solutions. @cawomenscaucus.bsky.social

She fought tirelessly in Sacramento with us and was an integral part of CCPU.

CCPU mourns the devastating loss of Mary Gutierrez-Hunter. When providers came together decades ago to talk about our lack of collective power to negotiate over poverty wages, benefits, and more, Mary stood hand in hand with providers to help us form our union.

With heavy hearts, we mourn our union sister Mary Gutierrez-Hunter. Mary brought justice to those in need, beauty and laughter to every space she entered, and fierce dedication to working people. She lives on in our hearts and in our movement. Please keep her loved ones in your thoughts.

#CALeg HEARD providers’ stories of missing mortgage payments and fears of not being able to feed our families, and responded by funding a historic cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in the #CABudget

We appreciate parents, our legislative partners, and the community who came together to fight for respect from the State of California. ( @cawomenscaucus.bsky.social, @parentvoicesca.bsky.social and more!)

When the state threatened to strip the benefits we won in our last contract, providers who survived cancer & received arthritis treatments through the Union’s healthcare benefits led our fightback and the state listened!

🚨BREAKING🚨 #CCPUCalifornia has reached a tentative agreement w/the State of California that protects benefits, wins stabilization pay, & ongoing cost-of-living adjustments, helping keep child care doors open by starting to stem the loss of skilled providers created by low pay.

Working families can't afford to lose child care, but providers are being forced to close their doors every day.

📢 @gavinnewsom.bsky.social: stabilize child care now!
ccpucalifornia.bsky.social
Our contract expired on July 1st, and 24 providers close each day! The state must stop breaking the law and sit down at the bargaining table to agree on a contract that invests in our state’s child care workforce to ensure working families do not continue to lose access to care."
