Update: This week our client Dr. Badar Khan Suri asked the court to reject the government’s attempts to re-detain him. Past ruling found no legitimate reason to detain Dr. Suri, doing so on the basis of "threat to foreign policy" is likely unconstitutional.

Execution is NOT what those most directly impacted in this case want or need for healing or justice. Mr. Berry has said: “I don’t want anyone to exact revenge … what is being done in my name is not what I need or want.” There is still time for the state to change course.

Execution by “nitrogen hypoxia” is death by suffocation by which members of an execution team place a mask over the person’s face and pump pure nitrogen gas, which deprives the brain and body of oxygen.
ccrjustice.org
If carried out, this would be Alabama’s fifth execution this year. Mr. West would be killed by nitrogen gas, a method Alabama only began using last year.

Last week ADOC denied Mr. Berry’s request to meet with Mr. West before execution. ADOC stated that “[a]s victims of Mr. West’s crimes…” Mr. Berry could not meet with Mr. West—the only right that the state of Alabama allows the victim is to witness Mr. West’s death.

“I know my mother and what she would want. She wouldn’t want this.” Instead, what he wants is to meet Mr. West to tell him, “I love you … God loves you. My mother would love you, because we forgive you.”
