I think I post this every year, but The Tomten and the Fox by Astrid Lindgren remains one of our favorite winter picture books. It's a magical story that hovers in the liminal space of a winter night, part folklore, part poetry, part fable. #kidlit #pb #picturebooks

It's not an urban problem either. Although rural areas are less populous, many also suffer from extreme poverty and food scarcity. Crawford County is one of the more rural counties in Ohio. Thousands still depend on SNAP.

To bring it close to home, these are the number of SNAP recipients for Montgomery County, Ohio, in July of this year. Left number is adults and right number is children.

So, the states with the largest numbers of SNAP recipients are no surprise: California, Texas, Florida, New York. They also have the largest populations. This map shows SNAP recipients as a percentage of each state's population. It's not a red/blue issue. It's a people issue.
