I feel like this is ok as long as the bottom of your boots are not touching the place where someone will sit. If it’s like “everything but the sole” then it’s less germful.

Worse is watching a film or television show where someone lays on a bed in their shoes. I’m like “I have lost all respect for you."

In theory, I suppose this works. In reality, my experience is that people only want to collaborate when it’s about something that’s theoretically novel or where the modeling dominates. I do a lot of empirical work that involves some modeling to illustrate differences. The model is in the backseat.

(3) Here it is! Run this code, but first structure your data frame in this very specific way. An MS in Applied Statistics will be necessary for you to interpret my instructions.
(4) We ran the model in brms. It took 3 days. Also, parameters are cray-cray, lol!

Whenever I look up anything on multinomial regression...
(1) Uh, we should have used it, but we binarized everything instead
(2) Here it is! Run this code. What's a random effect?

There's a lawsuit about AI stealing your work. It's the same lawyers taking on Elsevier et al in a separate case.

Academics:
1. Check if your work is in LibGen at www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

2. If so, let the lawyers know at www.lieffcabraser.com/anthropic-au...

There are tons of graphic novels, academic papers, film and TV scripts, & prose novels/nonfiction on the LibGen list Anthropic used.

As settlement approaches, make it easy for the class action lawyers to contact you! Here’s how

Part 1: is your work in Libgen?

Search LibGen, the Pirated-Books Database That Meta Used to Train AI
Millions of books and scientific papers are captured in the collection’s current iteration.

I don’t know if the Buffalo rapid response network is on bsky, but @ourcityaction.bsky.social is. Maybe they are interested and could point towards resources.

Two UB biomedical engineering students from Sri Lanka were taken by ICE in Williamsville today. @ubuffalo.bsky.social

Fucking ICE just disappeared two of our neighbors from their car; they had the courtesy to put the car back in the driveway , but left their 5 lb dog inside the house to die. Is America great again now‽ #MAGA
cdicanio.bsky.social
Do you know enough about them to contact family members?
cdicanio.bsky.social
What neighborhood are you in?
cdicanio.bsky.social
Not in the free version I don't think.

Start speaking languages other than English to them. It often makes wasps uncomfortable because they are mostly monolingual. Or tell them that they're missing a farmer's market happening right now. They love those things.

Our short vacation in Rhode Island has been nice, but the food here is really underwhelming. Newport is just expensive and mediocre. It could be good if it weren't so white everywhere.

The magenta dragon came out well. It's hard to get a good angle of the eyes though.

Husband sees flashlight on Kohl's website (he is addicted to Kohls cash) only to discover that Torchy300 is underwhelmingly smaller than advertised.

So, with the orange enemy-of-the-people firing the director of the bureau of labor statistics, what public sources on the US economy should the engaged public utilize instead? Aren’t there institutes who track these things themselves? Advice @epi.org, @economist.com? #econsky #publiceconomics

While in Oregon for #lsa2025, I basically didn't look at social media. (My therapist also said that would be great.) Coming back after a few weeks, I'm realizing just how many academics have really unhealthy media consumption habits and unhealthy work-life boundaries. We're not good models.

Could you just... let me linger?

It's ai age verification. So, it will apparently try to guess your age based on your YouTube history - no need to enter ID. If you've been listening to The Cranberries and watching videos about how to fix your bathroom sink, you probably are good.

Or the role can be something entirely pragmatic - you work with a couple people and everyone is ok with this.

This can end up kind of perturbing the notion of prioritizing community-oriented fieldwork. Sometimes there isn’t community interest in linguistic work. Should you force the issue?
