Gisa and Geralf are my favourite Magic: the Gathering characters. There are a few official stories written about them, but their story is mostly developed through flavour. I'm not a MtG collector by any means, but I'll get any card with them on it. It is such an unique way to tell and evolve a story

There's some good flavour on UB sets, to be fair, but they mostly amount to "oh, I understood that reference moments". Nothing that hits as hard as playing a vanilla 4/3 and getting this:

One of the worst things about Magic leaning toward crossovers and other IPs is missing the bits of it's own universe's lore that were found on flavour text of cards. These are some of my favourites:
