There’s relativity to contend with. Gravity. The time travel is quite non-linear. It’s a gift and technology they don’t understand the origins of until the very last (2/2).

There’s elements of this idea in Interstellar but rather than creating whole new universes, humans use black holes and wormholes to expand and inhabit new planets / space stations beyond the restrictions of time. (1/2)
