Had a really fun day at ACWest. Met up with @gingerbeardgeekdad.bsky.social and other friends. Played Heat, Arcs, Magical Athlete, Out of Sorts, The Gang and Nokosu Dice.

As ever, got to play a bunch of great games, but also a fantastic bunch of folks to play those games with #boardgames
The middle of a game of Arcs. Different colour player pieces, representing ships, cities and spaceports are spread across a galaxy as the players vie for dominance in different ambitions.

I feel like it must be extra hard to try and design symbols that feel alien, and that are cohesive but also distinct enough for multiple interpretations from players. Interested to see more as you try new stuff!

This is my friend's copy, but I know she's bringing it to Airecon West with us and eager to play more

For all the bloodthirsty warlord enthusiasts seeing this post today, rest assured there was subsequent ransacking of the court in this game.

Oooh new card templates for both the Book and Index cards... so I guess they're not Books but another medium? Or maybe an alternative alien language that the symbols have been derived from?

It's really great fun at the higher difficulty variants with a group that has some experience, it feels like you've pulled off a magic trick when you sequence everyone's hands correctly AND manage to guess the rank/card in the highest hand.

I absolutely adore this game, I have found it can fall a little flatter with folks not familiar with poker hands - but I've taken to asking and giving a bit of a primer to try and help onboard new players.

Suffering the consequences of my own actions... currently stuck in the worst standoff for Outage Spreads in @leder.games's Arcs #boardgames
A close up of the court row in a game of Arcs, there are 8 agents apiece on the Outrage Spread card, meaning neither player can currently secure it.

Egizia: Shifting Sands and Botanicus tonight! Both feature one-way action selection tracks. Egizia asks, can you squeeze more actions in before that spot is taken? Botanicus is tactical, maybe you take a worse action now to go first next? Expect groans when players are pipped to actions #boardgames
Egizia: Shifting Sands. A photo of the central board which features the river Nile, as an action selection track, you must place downstream from your previous boat, and there are limited spaces to place, do you maximise taking the most actions or focus on the most powerful actions? Botanicus. There are three action tracks on the central board in this gardening themed game, allowing you to earn money, plant plants or water plants. You pick your actions on a separate action selection track, but the primary actions they grant allow you to step up these central tracks for increasing rewards.

Awesome, will keep an eye out for you at the event.

Yeah! Staying in the city centre 17th-20th Oct for Netrunner - would be great to see you if you'll be around/in the area!

Enjoying a full day of #Netrunner playtesting with @sarazaraki.bsky.social ahead of Worlds in Edinburgh next month
A game of Netrunner in progress. Cards and tokens are laid out across two playmats. Looking from the Corp side, I'm playing a Jinteki deck against a Shaper Runner deck.

Ever since I had to replace my original Concordia deck due to wear and tear I've become a sleeve convert for games with heavy handling 😅

I've been enjoying Trickadee, which has trick-taking but also set collection - losing tricks gets you seeds to spend on abilities that help you build your flocks or manipulate your hand. Had some fun moments like when a player used an ability to bounce a trump card back to their hand to re-use.
A hand of birds in the game Trickadee, mid-round. In the background are several flocks of birds cards which meet the scoring conditions shown on the player aid. A couple of sunflower seeds tokens, used for special abilities are also seen.

This popped into one of my feeds yesterday and I've been non-stop listening, thanks for sharing!

Absolutely, it will be in my bag for Airecon.

Scrolling on this platform comes with the frequent risk of being burdened with knowledge of the availability of games you've wanted or the existence of a game you never knew you needed.

Not one but two packages waiting for me when I got home from my trip - the latest copy of @senetmagazine.bsky.social (always excited to read more words from @timclare.bsky.social) - and a copy of Nokosu Dice, via @travelgames.bsky.social, which I've heard nothing but great praise for #boardgames

Quite a few were new to me, or had been on my want-to-try list for a while, plus I got to share some of my current favourites, both make for a good time!

Spent the last 3 days playing boardgames with friends! Including: Castle Combo, Faraway, SETI, Yro, Shipyard, LoTR Duel, Galactic Cruise, Tangram City, Ettin, Boitas, Joraku, Trickadee, Tzolk'in, Broom Service, Rebirth, Compile, Black Forest, Quashars and Watch... phew... #boardgames
Joraku. The central player board shows the current state of area control as per the amount of different colour player pieces. Broom Service. The central player board shows several witch meeples moving around various territories delivering potions.

Managed to get a copy of Trickadee by @coinflip.games, played first game tonight, and gotta say I think I'm in love with this inventive trick-taker in which you build flocks of birds. Winning can be good to get first pick, but losing gets you seeds to spend on abilities, a fun dilemma #boardgames

I'm really excited to hear folks opinions on Club Spooky and That's the Spirit 👀
ceethefoxrun.bsky.social
Kemet has been on my want-to-try list for a while now, I'll have to bother my playgroup and see if anyone has a copy... I've heard good things!

Inis! I hadn't played this in a while, but I have a friend who favours high player interaction games, so I suggested it. Went down well, and I've gotta get this to the table more. It's a very swingy game, but even though you might get hit hard, it always feels possible to make a comeback #boardgames
Inis. A selection of territory tiles are linked together, with groups of different colour clan player pieces fighting for dominance over each other, sanctuary buildings and the land itself.
