well, one of my main reasons would be the case where the recipient is not worthy or not appreciative of it;
i helped a few friends in my time who did not want to be helped so i took my hand off them;

it’s PRECISELY how everything works;
as for my standard of living, it’s acceptable because USA was able to muscle in and impose its will on other countries;
