It was a great night. I can't wait to see what he does with a 60-card deck that I'll pick up for us for Xmas. Imma make a winner out of this boy!

10. I was PRESSED during that match against his G/W deck. He had a way of swinging and pinging that surprised me. Again, that two-card combo of his was a thing of beauty. Though he didn't win against the B/R I played, I gave him his second pack and a big hug.

9. He did not win our last game which was upsetting for him. :( But he was doing SO well! After our first match, I told him to not hold back, especially when he has the advantage.

8. When he asks what a card does, I do have to remind him to read it so I know what he's looking at. Sometimes I have to explain the mechanic. Sometimes he gets it on his own (referring back to point 7).

7. That B/R allowed him to play this wild two-card combo that I didn't teach him. Remember that eye for strategy I mentioned? Yeah, I was a proud uncle with that little performance. TOTALLY the play of the game.

6. He does like to try new combos! With his G/W, he beat the U/R that I was using, and then picked that deck, letting me pick up B/R for the second match. He likes what Blue had going on.

5. He won his first pack from me! I told him that for every game he wins, he'll win a pack of cards. His first pack was an Angels half-pack (Foundations Jumpstart) so we're going to try a new combo with them.

2. Green is his color. He likes dinos and big creatures and wants to see them out and about, stomping around. He played a G&W deck our first game, and likes the flyers that White added.

1. The boy LOVES this game. Like, he wants the game to go longer because he wants to get through all the cards in his deck. He knows what's in his deck and he wants his creatures out. We'll come back to this point in a bit.

Ohhh that sounds amazing! I've missed so much of this game. I'm just glad I'm back now and that EOE was my full re-entry and it gets to be followed by Lorwyn Eclipsed :D

I've been really excited that they're going back to these already trod planes to tell different stories or to pick up elements from their prior runs. Coming back to the game where these sets get to be "new to me" make me excited to dive into the narrative.

I see Selesnya less as a "cult" and more of a "found family," where "we are each other's burden." We are part of something greater, and that's "something" is each other and our relationship to the world-soul, itself. I dig it.

I get that the flavor text may say, "When you join Selesnya, you're giving up your identity." But I'm choosing to see this is as *gaining* an identity that is choosing to be connected to others who will also care for you, and using your strengths and powers to care for them in return.

It also didn't take long for me to acknowledge that I'm a Selesnya person. It's a VERY compelling pairing because an element of their story I think that is worth exploring is what gets people looking at it suspiciously.
