Moustiques tigres, frelons asiatiques, plantes exotiques…

New paper out! We present a framework for quantifying the vulnerability of terrestrial insular biota to multiple threats. This is the first output of the #RIVAGE project, funded by @frbiodiv.bsky.social & brilliantly led by @celinebellard.bsky.social.

Postdoc opportunity alert! A really fun subject: understanding the evolution of bird plumage patterns and colours using AI. At a great workplace (the CEFE, my lab), and in a wonderful place to live (Montpellier, France).

Four years ago we showed that only 27% of articles published in ecological journals WITH a code-sharing policy made their code available, leading to a 21% reproducibility potential.

We've looked into journals WITHOUT a code-sharing policy.

Results coming soon...

To downplay the impacts of alien species, some people claim "native invaders" cause as much disruption. Native species can become superabundant & damaging (when triggered by disturbance) but alien species are far more likely to be a cause of global extinction: redpath-staff.mcgill.ca/ricciardi/Bl...

For instance for birds (the best informed vertebrate group), areas of high confidence in vulnerability to biological invasions are limited to small patches in North America and South East Australia

🧨 Systematic reviews are in peril !

AI will be soon (if not already) massively be used to generate tons of fake and/or replicated papers; this wave will becomes a tsunami 🌊 ...

There really is a need for falsification/copy control in science now!

*Don’t trade off #carbon for #biodiversity*
The scientific consensus is clear: we cannot address climate change by industrialising the biosphere. #Climate solutions must protect ecosystem integrity and support biodiversity, not compromise them for carbon gains.🌎 theconversation.com/the-climate-...
The climate and biodiversity crises are entwined, but we risk pitting one against the other
In our race to cool the planet, we must not compromise the ecosystems on which we depend.
