The best way to learn to draw something (not only people, objects or whatever but also coloring, shading and such) is by copying it, be it directly or from photos. Using references isn't cheating, it's LEARNING.
If you're trying to do a line-less style of painting and keep thinking "it looks wayyy better with the line art" you need to add two things 1. More contrast and 2. More hard edges
Line art creates definition Adding starker contrast and hard edges adds definition through rendering
when drawing open mouths the upper teeth will always stay parallel to the eyes regardless of what expression they’re making - don’t angle the upper teeth based on the mouth shape
