The voracious demand created by our market system is perhaps the bigger issue. So, perhaps unbounded free market capitalism? I think you could say this about most things on any list, though.

Haber-Bosch process used to produce nitrogen fertilizer is interesting to consider. The positive and negative repercussions are enormous. Balance or moderation is the key for me.

That same great great grandfather also ran and lost against Charles Lindbergh's father for U.S. Congress. Strange to feel these family historical threads reaching forward to today.

I'm 5th generation Sauk Centre. Great great grandfather spent a lot of time talking with Lewis when he was young...grew up 2 doors down. I don't feel the town has changed much since he wrote Main Street. The capacity for this has always been here...just waiting for someone to wake it up.

Interesting...we've been raising angus here for 12 years now and I learned to call them with basically the same phrase. "CuhbahOsss". Kind of one word but adding an elevated second syllable to boss. Would like to learn more about regional differences and historical evolution of cattle calls.

Any suggestions for those of us who would like to do more than call our senators? Feels like we're not meeting the moment and we're all waiting for leadership to stand up.

The paper above and the concept of "structural overshoot" (paper below) I think are related and contributing factors to the fire dynamics detailed above by Dr. Swain and other climate disruptions observed globally. Really enjoyed the thread and the paper. Thank you!

"The enhanced vegetation growth reduces α and triggers additional pre-season Tr increases that further enhance soil moisture depletion and high temperature during the subsequent warm season, amplifying the likelihood of compound extremes."
